Special Birthday Message from MFDP to Minister Samuel D. Tweah, Jr.

DTweah-official

Today, May 6, we celebrate the birth anniversary of the Honorable Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Samuel D. Tweah, Jr.

We join our fellow compatriots here at home and across the globe to wish Minister Tweah a happy birthday and pray for his enduring fortitude and longevity as he has distinguished himself in public service by positively impacting the lives of Liberians from various strata of the society, thus endearing himself to the people.

Born May 6, 1971, history records the humble beginning of the young man affectionately known as “D-Tweah”. His parents Mr. Samuel D. Tweah and Mother Mary Datiloh Williams, respectively of Matuken and Doloken, Maryland County provided the young D-Tweah and his siblings the best possible Christian upbringing inculcating in him the values of humility, service, discipline, love, hard work and selflessness. It is therefore not surprising that in his professional life those values continue to be reflected.

The passion and dedication with which he makes the case for mainly the poor people of Liberia and explore opportunities as well as champion the government’s overriding development philosophy shows how inextricably linked he is to the history and conditions of the majority of our people.

An iconic scholar whose brilliance and intellectual prowess have gained global repute, Minister Tweah typifies what hard work and determination bring in the midst of challenging circumstances.

Hence, his meritorious ascendency as Finance Minister in 2018 is no historical accident as he had academically and professionally made his strides to the peak of managing the country’s economy.

Prior to becoming Minister, Min. Tweah served as Senior Advisor to the Executive Director representing The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia Sierra Leone and Sudan at the African Development Bank (AfDB). Before joining the AfDB in 2016, the George Washington University-trained Economist, worked as Chief Economist (2013-2016) of the National Millennium Compact Development Project of Liberia, an entity under the Ministry of Finance and Developing Planning (MFDP) charged with developing Liberia’s present compact with the Millennium Challenge Corporation of the United States.

As Chief Economist, he led the drafting of Liberia’s Constraints Analysis, which identified roads and power deficits as the binding constraints to sustained private investment and economic growth in Liberia. Prior to this, Mr. Tweah worked as a consultant at the MFDP, leading a team of consultants to cost the Agenda for Transformation, the national development plan of the Government of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. As a UNESCO hired consultant, Mr. Tweah developed and costed a national TVET implementation plan, which is guided by the national TVET policy. He has also consulted for NGOs.

Mr. Tweah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Liberia (Magna Cum Laude) where he was not only an outstanding orator and intellectual, leader of thought but also a celebrated and distinguished scholar.

Today, we celebrate the birth anniversary of Minister Tweah for his remarkable service as Minister of Finance and Development Planning leading a team of dedicated professionals

We celebrate him particularly for his courageous efforts in implementing meaningful reforms that have long eluded others before him.

Today, we celebrate the birth anniversary of Minister Tweah for steering the ship of our country’s economy through the turbulent waves of global economic hardship as a consequence of COVID-19.

Today, we celebrate D-Tweah for keeping the PAPD alive as we gradually sail towards the shores of economic recovery and prosperity.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Minister. We are so very proud of you and all you do for our people and country! Wishing you many, many more birthdays of good health to come!!!

From the Senior Management Team, Directors, and entire staff of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.
