Monrovia, Liberia — On Monday morning, employees at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning celebrated a significant milestone as Honorable Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Minister of Finance and Development Planning, officially commissioned three new 32-seater buses and two 18-seated buses dedicated to staff transportation.
The commissioning of these buses restores an essential transportation service for ministry employees after a seven-year hiatus. Officially commissioning of the buses in the presence of members of the Senior Management Team and staff of MFDP, Minister Ngafuan highlighted the importance of proactive leadership and resilience, stating, “We are not lamenting the darkness, but lighting the candles.”
He underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to confronting challenges head-on and advancing practical solutions for improved service delivery. The Minister of Finance and Development Planning emphasized that while the government is committed to improving working conditions for civil servants, public employees must remain dedicated to fulfilling their responsibilities.
“Real progress doesn’t come from grand gestures,” the Minister said. “It comes from doing the job you’re entrusted with—and doing it well.”
Handing over the keys to the newly commissioned buses, Deputy Finance Minister for Administration, Hon. Bill McGill Jones, emphasized that the move is not symbolic—but a demonstration of responsibility by the senior management team of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP).
“When we assumed office on February 7, 2024, staff were clear about the challenges we needed to address to boost productivity,” he said. “We committed—and we’re delivering on that promise.” Deputy Minister Jones lauded Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan and all members of the Senior Management Team for placing a premium on staff welfare. Minister Jones praised employees for their dedication and commitment and further employees that the commissioning of the buses is direct ways employed by the fiscal team to reduce the pressure on employees’ disposable income thus increasing take home pay.
Providing testimonies during the commissioning ceremony, staff members Anna Duo, Patricia Scott, Tina Telewoda, and Patrick Togbah described the initiative as a “big relief” after waiting seven years.
“Every month, I used to spend 15,000 LRD on transportation to and from Brewerville,” one staff member shared. “Now, I can save that money and put it to better use.”
