Monrovia. Liberia - The Minister of Finance and Development Planning of Liberia, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, announced the full automation of government transaction processes to increase accountability across all sectors.
He made these remarks during a greeting visit to the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator Ms. Christine Umutoni and other ambassadors of the UN team, held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the One United Nations Conference Room.

The meeting aimed to discuss issues of national development, partnership coordination, and alignment to promote and prioritize the Unified Development Goals and build stronger relationships between all sectors of the UN.

Minister Ngafuan commended the UN Resident Coordinator Ms. Christine Umutoni, other ambassadors, and the UN team for their dedication and support to the country's national development agenda by providing financial assistance to key sectors of the economy.
According to Minister Ngafuan, increasing engagement with development partners is paramount to fostering growth and building closer ties.
"Our development partners need to be partners in progress," he added.
He said automating government transaction processes would enhance accountability and remove bottlenecks in all sectors.

"Robust financial reporting is key to open governance accountability and transparency," he said. Ngafuan explained.

He noted that under his supervision as Minister of Finance and Development Planning, his heavy policy work and tireless role as a focal point will result in a policy of rotating procurement officers across the government to ensure value for money and maintain public confidence.

"By implementing this policy, procurement officers across government, while competently employed and well paid, will no longer work according to the will and desire of ministers and directors-general. That way we can save more money," he concluded.

We will take drastic and judicious action to maintain the confidence of the whole government and avoid public misunderstanding.

For her part, United Nations Resident Coordinator Christine Umutoni commended Minister Ngafuan for his good start and her commitment to working with other stakeholders across government

"Together we can accomplish so much more," she explained.
