IMG-20241023-WA0036
Washinton, DC - Liberia’s Finance and Development Planning Minister, Hon. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has invited the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) and other Development partners to Liberia for more transformative projects that will align with the country's National Development Plan, the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).

He made the request on the sidelines of the 2024 Annual Meetings of the World Bank/ International Monetary Fund during a meeting held with the President of ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), Dr. George Agyekum Donkor.

According to  him, as Minister of Finance and Development Planning, he will play a frontier role in restoring the confidence of all development partners to Liberia.

“As Minister of Finance and Development Planning, I will play a fronter role in restoring the confidence of all development partners to Liberia’’ says Minister Ngafuan.

He noted that when confidence is restored, all development partners including EBID will have the opportunity to contribute to Liberia's development agenda that will have an impact on citizens across all sectors of the economy.

“We are committed to do more transformative projects that will align with the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development’’ Minister Ngafuan explains.

“However, for me the first claims on revenue are to pay debt to unlock transformative projects.

Liberia’s resource envelope is small but I am doing some constructive fight to spend wisely and spend creditable’’ he added.

So, in the context of going forward, we will engage all of our development to build more trust, confidence and commitment to drive development across the country.

Minister Ngafuan thanked the EBID President and officials for the level of commitment and work done in Liberia. Let me thank you and your team for all you have done in Liberia.

ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) is doing good work across the region but as a country we need to do more to increase Liberia quotas in all international organizations including EBID.

For his part, the President for ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development, Dr. George Agyekum Donkor thanked Minister Ngafuan for the effort and commitment to strengthen relationship with Liberia and called for a more  collaborative partnership with Liberia.

We are committed to re-engage Liberia and raise funding for programs in Liberia.

It is important that we re-engage with Liberia and start to settle up standing issues to drive Liberia growth. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to a more robust partnership to invest in Liberia.

We also want to emphasize that we are ready to reach Liberia and work with your development agenda and make sure both parties cooperate to get things done fast.
