Lofa County Sets Ambitious Development Agenda: A Blueprint for Progress

 Lofa County - At a vital time for Lofa County, delegates concluded a momentous consultation session that will shape the future of the National Development Plan and the County Development Agenda.

 

The meeting took place on August 8th and 9th at the William V.S. Tubman County Hall in Voinjama, marking the end of two weeks of intensive county-level meetings held in Zorzor, Voinjama, Kolahun, and Foya.

 

As a result, a comprehensive set of priorities was determined to lead Lofa County towards sustainable growth and development. The consultation provided a platform for local leaders, community representatives, and various stakeholders to focus on key areas that require attention.

 

During the extensive discussions, participants focused on six core priorities, each of which reflects the individual needs and expectations of the county residents.

 

They included Roads, as the backbone of connectivity, healthcare in terms of expanding access and improving services for rural residents, agriculture, and education, and the rule of law including ecotourism among others.

 

Speaking at the event, Zorzor District Commissioner Paul Kalama underscored the importance of the consultation, saying that "the results will have a significant impact on both local and national policies and will certainly meet the expectations of Lofa County residents.”

 

Also making remarks, Rita Akoi, Coordinator of the Federation of Liberia Youths and a member of the County Council of Lofa, expressed her appreciation for President Joseph Nyuma Boakai's efforts in direct engagement at the district level. "This consultation represents an important step towards achieving our development goals.”  

 

Ms. Akoi revealed that the priorities identified reflect the real needs and expectations of local communities and they are committed to integrating them into the broader national framework and by providing national policymakers and development partners with guidance in the strategic planning and implementation of the National Development Plan and the County Development Agenda.

 

Additionally, one of the most pressing issues was the need for improved infrastructure as participants highlighted the importance of expanding and maintaining the road network to improve connectivity between districts, stimulate economic activity, and ensure access to essential services.

 

The consultation was led by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with technical assistance from the African Development Management Association (ADMA).

 

The Government of Sweden and the United Nations in Liberia were also key partners in this collaboration.

 

As Lofa County looks to the future, the vision shared by its representatives will provide a roadmap for progress and ensure that development efforts are not only ambitious but also closely aligned with the needs and aspirations of its residents.
