Deputy Minister Myers Clarifies that Government Achieved 74 Percent Progress in Hundred Days Deliverables; The Figure Constitutes Combined Ongoing and Completed Progress

Monrovia. Liberia - Confirmed statistical facts presented by the government of Liberia on Friday, May 17, 2024 at a special press briefing held at the Ministry of Information Culture Affairs and Tourism show that the government of Liberia achieved a combined 74 percent of its promised deliverables in its first hundred day in office.

Speaking at Friday’s press briefing, Acting Finance Minister who is also the Deputy Minister of Fiscal Affairs at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning disclosed that the figure constitutes sixty-four (64) completed and ongoing projects out of the eighty-seven (87) projects the government was determined to be delivered in its first hundred (100) days in office. Minister Myers also disclosed that the government of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is determined to execute the pending twenty three (23) projects which constitute twenty six (26) percent.

Minister Myers also explained that the deliverables or the “interventions in the 100-Day Action Plan” were divided into two categories: Funded and Routine interventions.  He said out of the eighty seven, there are 20 funded interventions and 67 routine interventions.

The Minister went to a great length in highlighting specific achievements scored by the government in key sectors during the course of the first hundred days.

In the agriculture sector, a key item in the government agenda, he mentioned that the government conducted National Agriculture Census Exercise, drafted the National Agriculture Development Plan draft is awaiting validation, and also did Liberia's Food Security Strategy which he said is about 95 percent completed.

On roads infrastructure, the Minister said that the government rehabilitated about 204 kilometers of road. He added that 158.6 km of road works are ongoing while pending roads work is about 420 km.

Moreover, with respect to the rule of law, the Minister highlighted among other thing the robust efforts by the government in the fight against the drugs and substance abuse. He said drug dealers and notorious individuals have been apprehended by the government in its first hundred days and are facing justice.

Among the achievements in the educational sector, Minister Myers named: the payment of arrears for local and international scholarship students, launching and the start of the recruitment of 10,000 youths for training in Information and Communication Technology, among others.

Furthermore, with regards to achievements in  the area of Sanitation with specific focus in Energy and Environment the Minister mentioned that cleaning of sewage lines has commenced across central Monrovia and the repair of water reservoirs in Monrovia and Paynesville has been almost entirely been completed . He disclosed that Caldwell water facility has been significantly repaired. He also said that The Liberia Electricity Corporation has successfully negotiated for an increase of power capacity supply from Cote D’Ivoire Energies from 25 MW to 50 MW.  Also, he said that the LEC has launched electrification project covering areas of St. Paul Bridge to Po-River and gap areas along Kakata corridor including Johnsonville and Careysburg. Similarly, Marshall, RIA and Edward Beyan Kesselly Barrack have been connected to the National Electricity Grid.

Speaking about achievements in Public Administration, the Acting Minister said the resubmitted budget for FY 2024 was passed by both Houses of the Legislature and signed by the President. He added that payroll and personnel audits across governments are ongoing. Other achievements in Public Administration mentioned by Minister Myers were: digitizing revenue transaction system across government has been initiated; launching the National Consultancy Policy, and the Liberia Integrated Tax Administration System (LITAS) which has been integrated with three banks (Ecobank, GT Bank, and International Bank Liberia Limited).

Additionally, in the area of health, Minister Myers said that following the President’s declaration of substance abuse as a national emergency, 123 beneficiaries of the At-Risk Youth Program have transitioned from rehabilitation to recovery and reintegration; He also disclosed that the Government secured 15 domestic scholarships annually through the Ministry of Education for Mental Health Clinicians to pursue Master’s degrees in Advanced Practice Clinical Psychiatric Mental Health. He added that the government has identified sites for the construction of four regional diagnostic centers. He furthermore disclosed that consignments of rapid diagnostic test kits have distributed to 70% of clinics and communities around the country;

The well attended Press Conference provided details and statistical evidence of government’s remarkable achievements in the first hundred days contrary to claims in certain quarters which grossly contradicted the facts.
