Monrovia, Liberia - Hon. Tanneh G. Brunson, Liberia Deputy Minister for Budget and Development Planning joined the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Madam Christine N. Umutoni, to launch a robust multi-disciplinary technical support to the National Development Plan called the ARREST agenda.
The launch of the technical support to the National Development Plan was held on Tuesday April 2, 2024, at the conference room of MFDP.
The technical support to the National Development Plan is geared towards ensuring strong coordination, commitment and other key national development issues that align with the agenda to address critical national concerns across the country.
Hon. Brunson who officially launched the meeting on behalf of the Government used the occasion to commend the United Nations family for their long-standing partnership, commitment and support given to Liberia through development programs across all sectors of the economy.
According to her, a team from the Ministry of Finance and Development will have the opportunity to share with the United Nations counterparts through areas of support spelled out in the government’s roadmap leading towards the formulation of the national development plan.
We anticipate a fruitful and more engaged discussion from today’s meeting that will align with the United Nations system to identify and agree in areas of technical support till the national plan is finalized and launched, the Minister said.
Today’s technical meeting was a product of several engagement meetings held between the government of Liberia and the United Nations counterpart. Minister Brunson admonished participants at the meeting to use the opportunity to ensure both partners successfully conclude on the formulation of the country’s national development plan.
For her part, the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Liberia, Madam Christine Umutoni emphasized that “today’s launch shows a significant milestone in our collective efforts to foster sustainable development, transformation and prosperity for all citizens of Liberia.”
According to Madam Umutoni, the United Nations through its various agencies in-country, regional, and global will support the Government of Liberia in its national and sub national development planning process.
"We reaffirm the United Nation’s collective commitment to support the Government of Liberia’s journey towards sustainable development and together we can turn challenges into opportunities and transform aspirations into reality”, she added.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator for Liberia also said that “a multi-disciplinary approach that integrates the principles of sustainability, inclusivity and resilience will address the root causes of poverty, inequality, empower marginalized communities, invest in climate adaptation and mitigation measures that will advance the national development objectives that will contribute to the broader global agenda of accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.”
