Finance and Development Planning Minister Amara Konneh says the completion and dedication of the 55-kilometer pave road linking Gbarma to Weasua by the Government of Liberia will enhance economic activities in Gbarpolu County.
Minister Konneh disclosed that the road when constructed would lead to increase in business activities for local entrepreneurs, and create the needed opportunities to improve the standard of living of the citizens.
According to MFDP release, Minister Konneh made the statement at the groundbreaking ceremony of the road project held in Tekpeimah on Saturday.
‘’On behalf of the President and Vice President of Liberia, we are happy to be here and to appreciate the citizens of this district for being peaceful and contributing to the country’s reconstruction‘’ stressed Minister Konneh.
Minister Konneh informed the people of Gbarpolu that the road project will cost US$3.2M and will be complete within two years. He believes the road project when started will also create job opportunity for one hundred youths within Gbarma District.
‘’ Each town will get people working on this road, we will recruit young people from each town like Gbarma, Zoowo, Tekpeimah, Belle Bassa and Sawmill Camp to work and generate funds for their household with in the period of two years.’’ He assured.
However, Minister Konneh indicated that the road construction would begin in two phases; the first phase starting from Weasua to Gbarma, while the other will begin from Gbarma to Tekpeimah in-order to speed up the entire process.
At the same time, Minister Konneh has revealed that the government of Liberia will construct a police depot, 10 bedrooms clinic and a school for the people of Gbarma District. He noted that at the moment there is an ongoing negotiation with the Cell-Com GSM Company to provide telecommunications for the people of Gbarma District’’.
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together the President Pro Temp of the Liberian Senate Armah Zolu Jallah, including members of the Gbarpolu legislative caucus, Superintendents, Commissioners, Town Chiefs, Students, and Elders of Gbarma District.
