Assistant Minister Calls for Gender Equality

DSC 0853Assistant Minister for Administration at the ministry of Finance and Development Planning has expressed the need for gender equality to be prioritized at the local and international institutions; adding this is the time to prioritize gender equality.
Asst. Minister Watson made the statement at program marking the observance of the first international women day celebration held in Liberia at the Light International School on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. The Youthful Minister stated that it was important for Liberian women to unite and to have an open mind in advocating for issues affecting women.
Minister Watson urged women in Liberia to continue their advocacy in terms of doing positive things that will have good reflection of women determination to do better.
" Women have always been known as home-makers, care givers, the one who goes to labor and bring forth children, however it is time we realize that there is much more for us to do than our traditional practices" she added.
The elated Assistant Minister disclosed that a time would come in which men would recognize women as their peers, not only at the fireside, but also in the council of nations.
Hon. Watson acknowledged the challenges faced by women ranging from violence, to lack of adequate education, poverty and rigid stereotypes that limit their potential, but call on women to run the world.
She called on the government of Liberia and development partners to invest in programs that recognizes the reality of women role in primary family caregiver, the long-term effects of domestic violence and negative impact of rigid gender stereotypes among others.
