APRM National Secretariat Concludes Town Hall Meetings on Domestic Resource Mobilization

R2

Monrovia, Liberia - The African Peer Review Mechanism National Secretariat has held Town Hall Meetings with emphasis on Domestic Resource Mobilization in five (5) counties over an 8-day period.

The November 2nd to November 9th meetings were held in Bopolu (Gbarpolu County), Tubmanburg (Bomi County), Robertsport (Grand Cape Mounty County), Gbarnga (Bong County) and Kakata (Margibi County), respectively.
The Domestic Resource Mobilization Project funded by the African Development Bank is in line with APRM Pillar Two (Economic Governance and Management). It is under Phase 2 of the Integrated Project Financial Management Reform Project (IPFMRP 2).

The Project is expected to be implemented in the fifteen (15) political subdivisions of the country by the APRM National Secretariat.

According to APRM Executive Director, Dax Sua, the overarching rationale of the Town Hall Meetings is to broaden the public discourse on natural resource governance, domestic resource mobilization and building local capacity at sub-national levels.

The Town Hall Meetings held in the five (5) different counties brought together participants from the Liberian Land Authority, Liberian Revenue Authority from the various County Service Centers, civil society Organizations, members of the media, youth organizations and students. Others participants were women organizations leaders, the business community, local government authorities, motorcyclists and drivers.

Meanwhile, APRM Executive Director Dax Sua has commended the MFDP Minister and APRM National Focal Point Honorable Samuel D. Tweah , Jr for his outstanding leadership and technical support to the APRM Liberia Country Program.

The APRM is a mutually agreed instrument voluntarily acceded to by AU member countries as an African self-monitoring mechanism with four (4) pillars: Democracy and Good Political Governance, Economic Governance and Management, Corporate Governance, and Socioeconomic Development.

The APRM National Secretariat is a specialized unit within the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning. Liberia acceded to the African Peer Review Mechanism in January 2011 at the 14th Ordinary Session of 9 Heads of State and Governments.
