APRM and GIZ Host Technical Training Workshop on Popularization of the Revised Country Self-Assessment Questionnaire

1000202109
Monrovia, Liberia – September 9, 2025- The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), will host a three-day Technical Training Workshop on the Popularization of the APRM Revised Country Self-Assessment Questionnaire and Methodology from Wednesday, September 10 to Friday, September 12, 2025 at the Cape Hotel, Mamba Point, Monrovia.

The workshop is designed to equip national research groups, think tanks, and key stakeholders with in-depth knowledge of the revised APRM research methodology, a critical tool for Liberia’s upcoming national survey and research process that will culminate in the preparation of the Country Self-Assessment Report (CSAR).

The CSAR serves as the foundational document for Liberia’s second-generation country review.

This training is part of a series of activities outlined in Liberia’s review Roadmap. It reflects APRM’s broader continental strategy to strengthen governance, accountability, and peer learning across African Union (AU) member states.
Established in 2003, the African Peer Review Mechanism is a specialized AU institution that promotes voluntary self-assessment among member states.

In 2016, the APRM Forum of Heads of State and Government adopted a revitalization agenda known as deepening the Review, which emphasized strengthening the self-assessment process and ensuring more inclusive and comprehensive reviews.

The workshop will focus on: popularizing the Revised Country Self-Assessment Base Questionnaire and its annexed toolkits; training national structures and technical institutions to deconstruct and domesticate the questionnaire; building capacity for the effective use of the APRM electronic questionnaire; and providing a platform for member states to share best practices and experiences in the domestication process.

There will also be experience sharing sessions from representatives of national APRM structures of Ghana and Nigeria.

Participants will include representatives from the National Governing Council (NGC), APRM National Secretariat, research institutes, development partners, civil society organizations, independent think tanks, youth groups, the media, and key ministries such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.
