Monrovia, Liberia - The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) firmly rejects false reports in the Verity and Heritage Newspapers suggesting a recent staff resignation was due to salary delays.
We wish to clarify that the employee resigned in July 2025, with an effective date of August 18, 2025 well before the payment of salary began. His resignation letter made no mention of salary concerns.
In fact, the letter written by Mr. Saye Maye Cole reflects gratitude:
“After 14 years of dedicated service… I believe it is time to bring this chapter of my professional journey to a close… I remain deeply grateful for the opportunities I have had to grow, contribute, and mentor emerging professionals within the Ministry.”
Maye Cole concluded by saying, "Thank you once again for the professional and courteous interactions that have defined our working relationship."
According to the Comptroller and Accountant General, Hon. Elwood Nettey, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, salary payment has been largely current and that August salaries payment started on the 20th. "Some banks may have experienced delays in crediting the accounts of staff at certain entities due to technical issues, but these issues have since been resolved," Nettey noted.
There is no evidence to support claims of financial grievance. Therefore, any insinuation that the employee resigned on account of dissatisfaction over delayed salary payment of August salary, is grossly false and misleading.
The Ministry urges all media outlets and commentators to contact the MFDP and verify information before publication.
MFDP remains committed to transparency, accountability, and effective delivery despite teething challenges.
