GoL, CSOs Signs US$224k Sub-grant Agreement

Monrovia, Liberia - The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and Thirteen Civil Societies’ Organizations on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 signed a sub-grant agreement in the tone of US$224,000.00 (Two hundred Twenty Four Thousand United States Dollars) to engage CSOs in scrutiny the use of public resources as well as building constituencies for reform of the Public Financial Management (PFM) system across the country and also seeks to strengthen the capacity of organizations to serve as critical partners in ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of public resources and public service delivery.

The objective of the sub-grant is to undertake demand driven transparency and accountability interventions on budget formulation and execution, domestic resource mobilization strategy implementation, increasing citizens’ access to information and participation in annual budget discussions as well as increasing awareness on reducing power theft. 

Hon. Rebecca Mccgill, Deputy Minister for Administration, speaking at the ceremony acknowledged the Non State Actors coordinator and participating organizations for the level of cooperation and efforts during the selection process.

According to her, Civil Society Organizations outcome of performance should be more than the cost. “For me I did cost benefit analysis, so I want the benefit to be more than the cost. To be qualifying today mean you are the one who will open the corridor for others Civil Society Organizations tomorrow”.

She hailed the senior management team of MFDP and the Non State Actors coordinator for the level of work, efforts and cooperation between Government of Liberia and civil society organization across the country.

The sub-grant interventions has a lifespan of six (6) months (May 15, 2021-November 15, 2021) were three (3) of the organizations are dedicated to increasing the participation of women in annual budget discussions; which constitute 23% of the total number of interventions.

These interventions will support Intermediate Results Indicator # 5 under Component 3 of the PFMRISP: Number of Citizens and CSOs representatives that participate in annual budget discussions ad are updated on their implementation of year’s prior citizens’ recommendation to the budget. Attached is an overview of the interventions.

Institutions that signed the sub-grants todays include: Better Future Initiative (BFI), Center for Media Studies and Peace building ( CEMESP), Community Safety Initiative (CSI), Early Action for the return of Stability (EARS-SED), Grassroots Democracy, Grand Kru Women Association (GRAWOA), Liberia Children Schooling Project, Naymote Partners for Democratic Development, National Institute for Public Opinion (NIPO), partnership for Community Initiative (PCI), Platform for Dialogue and Peace (P4DP) and Youth for Environmental Services (YES)
