GoL, TRANSCO CLSG hold Bi-Annual Coordination General Meeting

CLSG

Monrovia, Liberia - The Government of Liberia and TRANSCO CLSG including contractors from the Liberia Electricity Corporation on Tuesday January 26, 2021 commenced three days Bi- Annual Coordination General Strategic Meeting at the Cape Hotel in Mamba point.

The objective of the meeting is to reaffirm TRANSCO CLSG commitments to commission phase one power connection from ‘Man’ substation to Liberia in February 2021 and to establish a regional electricity market in West Africa through the appropriate development and implementation of key infrastructures so that all ECOWAS member states are given access to economic energy resources.

Speaking on Tuesday January 26, 2021, the Deputy Minister for Economic Management at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Augustus J. Flomo said the leadership of President George Weah is fully committed to supporting the full implementation of TRANSCO CLSG project and is pleased with the level of engagement with CLSG Team and Liberia Electricity Cooperation.

According to him, commissioning of the project in February will bring great transformation in the energy sector and it is a positive move for the government and people of Liberia.

“For those of you who had the opportunity to drive around the country, you will tell that our roads are still challenging and we are trying as a government to do a lot in road connectivity” he explained.

He disclosed that Liberia has had two major constraints in its development agenda which are road and electricity. The country over the years has suffered lots of challenges and we have since been struggling to restore that, he said.

“CLSG will enhance the capacity of the electricity connection and so we can’t lose that opportunity. The news is positive and it must come to past and on time as promised’’ He added.

We look up to you the technical people to get the job done and on the targeted time,” he indicated. He pointed out that the commissioning of CLSG operations in the country will be a big boost to the energy sector of the country.

For his part, the General Manager of TRANSCO CLSG, Mr. Mohammed Sheriff said the goal of the project is to deliver quality power supply to the people of the four Mano River Union Countries and Liberia Electricity Cooperation will be the first beneficiary.

“Today we are here having this technical discussion on the work and contract management issues. We want to see those things that need to be addressed, the intervention that has been made or should be made by TRANSCO CLSG and the Government of Liberia” GM Sheriff stressed.
