Monrovia, Liberia - The new Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning has begun to effectively execute her responsibilities kicking the ball rolling with some very worthwhile administrative engagements on Fri day, March 16.

Hon. McGill held an acquaintance meeting with Senior Staff including Directors and Assistant Directors of the Department of Administration as well as with the Ministry’s Chief Legal Counsel Cllr. Annie W. Swen. Among those in attendance were the Director of the Internal Audit Unit, Mr. Amos Quermollue, Budget and Finance Director, Mr. Nathan Reeves, Director of the Human Resources Unit, Mr. James Kiawu, among others.  Also in attendance was Assistant Minister for Administration Hon. Patience Kollie-Lawson.

Hon. McGill informed the gathering of senior staff to encourage the staff to work harder and commit themselves to punctuality, discipline and greater focus in executing the mandate of the Ministry. She encouraged the staff to be honest in all that they do and assured them of her commitment to working with them in providing quality services that will impact the lives of the Liberian people. She further cautioned the senior staff to ensure effective oversight of their various units in a way that would guarantee that employees deliver the services for which they are being paid.

Meanwhile, Hon. Rebecca McGill has begun an intensive tour of the Ministry’s building in an effort to see for herself the state of the facility and some its assets. During the tour the Minister entered several bathrooms to ensure that they met appropriate sanitary conditions. She also visited the IT Center, the Maintenance Unit, the Storeroom, the Generator Room, as well as the garbage transit site at the back of the building and several other offices. The Minister while inspecting the water well at the Ministry’s premises expressed the need that it is improved upon to provide pipe-borne supply of water throughout the building so as to reduce the cost of purchasing water for use in the building.

At the close of the first day of the exercise, the Minister inspected some of the buses used by the general staff and was visibly disappointed that many of those buses are in very poor state.

The tour of the Ministry’s building continues next continues next week, according to Deputy Minister McGill.
