VP Boakai Visits MFDPMonrovia, Liberia - Vice President Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai has lauded Finance and Development Planning Minister, Amara M. Konneh for exemplifying a great leadership in spearheading activities at the Ministry.

Vice President Boakai indicated that Minister Konneh and his management team at the MFDP have done their utmost best in stabilizing the economy which he described as one of the key areas to enhance growth and development.
He commended Minister Konneh and the MFDP workforce for the crucial role they continue to play in the economic revitalization program of the country when he paid a courtesy visit at the MFDP.

“We have come to visit the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, which happens to be one of the busiest ministries in the country. As you may be aware, the economy is one of the driving forces to the nation’s growth, and this Ministry has been doing well in carrying out its functions. So we have come to meet with some of the staff who are behind the scene making things possible,” stressed Vice President Boakai.

Addressing journalists following his meeting with the MFDP Minister and his management team which took him on touring some of the offices at the Ministry, VP Boakai noted “A lot of things we talked about. The economy – what is it we need to do, how do we do it after Ebola to move the economy, what areas we should be stressing, where we should be moving to what sort of support we should give, I think these are the general issues we have been talking about. So I am just happy to be here.”

Vice President Boakai also indicated that the country is on the move to the agriculture sector but however stressed that there are some difficulties in the creation of jobs.

“As we believe that we are on the move, we are moving to the agriculture sector, as you know there are difficulties in the rubber sector, oil sector, iron ore sector, areas in which a lot of our people are finding possibility and you know agriculture is one of the areas that provides jobs and create more opportunities,” he emphasized.
Responding to one of the reporters’ question, VP Boakai indicated that good roads across the country are critical to the success of the Agriculture Sector in Liberia.

“The problem people have in the country is movement. If there was a good road from here to Lofa, you will see people leaving town going to make farms; so it is what me and the Minister talked about. I believe the problem we have in this country is movement. The time people take when they get stock in the mud, the food they supposed to come in town with get stuck in the mud, so we need to build roads”, the Vice President stated.

He however disclosed to the reporters, “There are discussions ongoing, the dry season is on and I will like to see the rehabilitation and construction of roads to start tomorrow. We have talked about that, people are in the country with machines they have mobilized already.
