Monrovia, Liberia - The Public Financial Management Reform Coordination Unit (PFMRCU) on Thursday paid an hour-long visit to the Offices of the EU Delegation in Mamba Point, Monrovia. The meeting was intended to familiarize the EU with the workings of the PFMRCU.
The Coordinator of the RCU thanked Theo Kaspers, the head of EU Cooperation for the invitation and affirmed the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Samuel D. Tweah strong commitment to working with the EU.
Dr. Munyeneh noted that the RCU is working tremendously to improve the reform space in the Ministry and the Country at large. The RCU has embarked on several transformational activities with focus on public service delivery, rule-based governance and adherence to the Public Financial Management laws and Regulations.
The RCU has developed several policy papers including the State of Governance Reform which focuses on conducting inter-ministerial coordination on public financial management activities.
Currently, the RCU is working towards strengthening and improving the Government of Liberia’s scores in global indicators such as the Public Expenditure and Financial Accounting (PEFA) and the Country Policy and Institutional Assessment (CPIA). The RCU intends to have series of internal self-assessments before the ranking and scoring commence by the World bank and other international partners.
For his part, Mr. Kaspers welcomed the RCU team the EU is committed to supporting the country’s national development programs. He stressed that the EU’s support is benchmarked against four priorities: Macro-Economic Framework, Budgetary Transparency, Sustained Evidence-based Progress on the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) within the next six-eight months, and Public Financial Management and Governance.
In closing both parties commit to working together so as to achieve the common objective of the government and people of Liberia. Also in attendance were Spencer Weah, Lynda Varmah and Prince Thompson and Federico Foti, the head of the Macroeconomic unit at the EU.
