Washington DC, U.S.A - The Government of Liberia has signed two financing agreements for the reconstruction of the Ganta-Tappita highway, and the Konia-Voinjama highway projects.
Liberia’s Minister of Finance and Development Planning Samuel D. Tweah Jr., who presented his country case as head of the delegation at the annual 2019 IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, signed two financing agreements in the amount of US$20 million grant with the World Bank under its SECRAM project for Ganta-Tappita highway project.
Also, another US$ 25 million concessional facilities for the Konia-Voinjama highway in Lofa County was signed under the OPEC Fund for International Development.
This Konia-Voinjama signing fully completes the financing of the Gbarnga-Lofa corridor of the project, and thus paves the way for the country’s private sector window to access OPEC funding at concessional rates.
With the signing of these agreements, paving of roads especially in the rural areas will stimulate economic activities in the country.
