Finance Minister Ngafuan Acknowledges the Role of the Security Sector in Building a Vibrant Economy

Monrocia, Liberia - Liberia’s Minister of Finance and Development Planning Minister, Hon. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, has acknowledged the pivotal role security institutions play in the improvement of the country’s economy.

Speaking, Wednesday September 17, at a session that focused on the Security Sector on Day 5 of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning Executive Budget Hearings of FY2026, the Minister said, “the good thing is that you’re in the security sector, in one breath, you’re on the expenditure side, in another, you’re on the revenue side.”

He added, “security creates the confidence for business, investments, and growth. When businesses thrive, revenues increase and that allows us to share a bigger national cake.”

He then assured that when the national revenue envelope gets bigger, the corresponding impact on the Security Sector will be an increase in their share of what he termed as the ‘’national cake”.

Minister Ngafuan further said, “we will see what cake we have to divide, what pressures we face. But this is a sector that we consider very important.”

While appreciating the work of the national security institutions in general, the Finance Minister has recognized the improvement in the work of the LDEA.

“We know some of the efforts of the anti-drug war that have stepped up, thanks to you (the acting leadership of the LDEA) and the team”, he stated.

The Minister disclosed that there have been meetings with the acting management team of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA).

“We've had some meetings with them. We know that the President takes it very seriously. And moving forward, we too have to skew emphasis towards that direction. We have to save the future of the country,” he stressed.
