On behalf of the Global Initiative for Fiscal Transparency and the International Budget Partnership, we recognize the effort that Liberia has made to promote budget transparency. Although this work has sometimes not yielded the expected results and inevitably challenges remain, we know that your leadership has always strongly advanced the disclosure of information on the use of public resources and the expansion of the possibilities for public participation in the budget process. In the 2019 edition of IBP’s Open Budget Survey, Liberia had a 6% increase compared to the 2017 results (link).

The Executive Board of the IMF at a meeting on Friday, June 5, 2020, approved the disbursement of SDR 36.2 million equivalents to US$ 50million or 14 percent of quota under the Rapid Credit Facility (RCF) to Liberia to help address the emergency financing needs stemming from the COVID 19 pandemic.

Monrovia, Liberia - The Government of Liberia has commenced the first phase of the payment of retirement handshake packages to retired civil servants, who served in Montserrado and Margibi Counties, at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, Monrovia, under strict social distancing and other health guidelines for the prevention of transmission of COVID-19.

Monrovia, Liberia - The Government of Liberia wishes to formally announce that since February 2020, approximately 2,154 employees from 14 entities of the Government of Liberia (GoL) were retired after reaching the age of retirement, consistent with the New Social Security Law of 2017. A program to honor the retired employees was planned for early April 2020 but had to be canceled due to the prevailing health emergency in the country.
